Nintendo Forever

So, my mom and I have been going through my childhood room in preparation for an upcoming garage sale. I'm ok with getting rid most things.

Needless to say, I brought my old N64 back to my apartment with men and managed to hook it up myself.
wires wires everywhere

I immediately started playing again. And doing nothing else.

I told everyone I was playing Mario Kart, because that's still kind of cool/relevant.

But the truth?

Ok, I played Mario Party too. Bowser's a dick. Anyway, that's what I was up to all weekend

Did you guys play Nintendo or Nintendo 64? Anyone still a secret old school gamer?

I'm Not a Picky Eater, but...

I just haven’t tried a lot of foods. As I’ve discussed before, I’m a vegetarian. Unfortunately, I don’t know how to make many vegetarian dishes.

I think this comes from my upbringing. We Italians are not particularly outgoing in the food department. My mom pretty much stuck to the basics at mealtime. Especially for her vegetarian daughter.

Anyway, so it wasn’t til after college when I was on my own that I started looking into other foods.

It kind of seems like picky eating, but it’s not. I’m actually pretty open to trying vegetarian foods, as long as they’re relatively inexpensive and easy to make. I just often don’t know where to begin.

This weekend though, I had my first acorn squash with Boyfriend.

So, I tried it. It wasn’t bad, but it needed a little something else in it.

Baby steps.
Anyhoo, I thought I should poll you guys: what slightly odd foods should I try next? By slightly odd, I mean not part of the standard American diet (hello, quinoa!).  As long as it’s vegetarian and not incredibly expensive or hard to find, I’m open to it.

Also, share your picky-eating-but-not-really stories! You know I hate being the only one with the embarrassing confessions.

Damnit Candy Corn

So, this is a repost from September 2012 because I feel very strongly about this topic still. I was going to try to whip up another post, but I decided this one is still pretty good and covers everything I have to say.

Let’s talk about another addiction of mine. It’s not watching videos of puppies and kittens this time (though I still do that compulsively). It’s this:

You know what I mean right? The ones that are essentially all sugar? I LOVE the candy corn and candy pumpkins.

But not the “chocolate” candy corn bullshit.
bleh.
Anyhoo, this is a problem for a few reasons.

1. When I inevitably eat too many of them, I feel super sick.

2. Have you looked at their ingredients?

Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating. But really, it’s sugar and chemicals. Fucking delicious sugar and chemicals.

3. How about their nutrition information?

Anyhoo, they make me feel terrible, they're terrible for me, and yet my mouth is watering whilst writing this post.

And you know what the worst part is? Because EVERYONE IS AN ASSHOLE, my food store starting displaying them in the beginning of August. I haven’t bought any (yet), but we’re still like a month and a half from Halloween!!

It’s just not fair. I even had a DREAM about this candy, guys. I’m not kidding.
Yes, yes you should.
Clearly, someone needs to do this:
They would have my business.
Who’s with me? Or who else is addicted to disgustingly bad-for-you yet indisputably delicious candy?
