January Junk Food Dump

(Weird post title, I know. Bear with me.)

So, it's January. Which means for many people, including me, it's time to get back on that ol' healthy eating wagon.

Yep. Off the floor, on the wagon.

Yeah. And everyone goes:

And thus begins the annual month long exercise of bringing junk food to the office. AKA the January Junk Food Dump.

I mean, I get it. Full disclosure: I've done this in the past to get junk food out of my own house. But it suuuuuucks.

Wahhh. I really need to go cold turkey on the junk food, so there's no little "treats" for me. And of course, there are always coworkers like this:

The metabolically blessed. GLARE.

Sigh. Hopefully the junk time is winding down. Til then, I have to #staystrong

I still don't understand how that's not a winning argument.

The Cider Doughnut Life

As you may know, Boyfriend and I eat low carb/high fat

So yes, I dream of carbs.

I've been doing it for a little over a year now, and I'm down 20 pounds ish.

By american averages, I am perfect.

Anyway, not the point. The point is, sometimes we  cheat a little. Boyfriend tends to have a whole cheat day, whereas I usually just have a meal or  treat (or both). And this week, our cheat day landed on the sugar holiday of the country, Halloween.

But no, actually we didn't opt for candy. Instead, we attempted to track down the elusive cider doughnut.

Boyfriend had looked for them at a couple of farmers markets and had no luck.

But then, I, who will now be referred to us as "Hero Girlfriend," went to a local farm store and purchased them.

Later that night, we feasted.

Ah, that apple cider doughnut life.

Cave Kitty

As I've discussed before, I've cut way down on the carbs

I've also mentioned kitty's expanding waistline. As a result, I've cut out the kibble and am only giving her wet food.

So, we're both eating kind of paleo-like-ish. I call it the Cave Kitty Diet.

You know, except for the fact that I don't eat meat and her food comes out of a can. Besides that, it's pretty much how I imagine our ancestors ate.

Man our ancestors had it easy.

Gia Want Sugar

For the past few weeks, I’ve been eating very low carb, as Boyfriend does.

(I know I’m opening myself to a bunch of “moderation is key, eat healthy grains!” comments, but oh well. I won’t be all preachy about this, but it makes sense to me.)

Anyway, this happens about weekly now:

I’m allowed to eat cheese, thank goodness.

I’ve made some tasty carb alternatives, though:

Black Soy bean chili!

Low Carb Pizza!

Low Carb Chocolate peanut butter fudge brownies!

Sure, there are a couple of side effects, like the occasionally carb dream.

But I’m mostly ok with it.

Anyone else low carbing it?

I resisted eating a bagel at work and I’m pretty sure I deserve some kind of medal.

My office has been just filled with junk food lately.

Part of this is my fault, seeing as how I organized an office bake-off to get everyone to bring in baked goods for me to eat.

Anyway, then my coworkers brought in extra Halloween candy and Halloween munchkins and it’s just been a junk food fest all week. I finally decided to take control.

Easier said than done.

It went on like this until noon.

And that is how I managed to not have a bagel on bagel Friday.

I saw Boyfriend after work and he wasn’t terribly impressed with my achievement.

Do you guys have treats at the office? Do you ever manage to resist them??
