I called to make a doctor's appointment on Friday and they told me Monday was open. I exclaimed I was surprised they were open on MLK Day. The nurse responded angrily, "I don't know nothin' about no Martin Luther King." You can give the man a day, but you can't make the rednecks recognize it. Happy MLK Day to all...except that nurse, she's a stone cold dumb dumb.
For the first time ever, I have MLK day off. And now I'm sitting on my couch in my sweats, looking at blogs. Next, I'll lay down on the couch and read my book. Big plans today!
The day off thing seems to eclipse the meaning of the holiday. This was always the case in college- every human rights day was an excuse to drink before noon
Hope you're enjoying your day off! I think all offices and schools that are closed should've set off Lysol bombs to get rid of all the germs we all keep passing back and forth.
I worked, but I'm Canadian. We don't recognize MLK day... yet... who knows, we might steal it, celebrate it a month earlier than you folks and make it seem like it was our idea the whole time. Kinda like Thanksgiving. :)
I managed to get a little exercise yesterday by using my old lacrosse stick and gloves to throw a ball against a series of backstops. Also, I watched a lot of cosplay videos on YouTube. Someone should suggest to most cosplayers that they should not be allowed to speak on camera.

Enjoy your day off! My kids have school since they missed so many days due to Sandy. They are not happy about that!
ReplyDeleteMy boss didn't give me the day off because he's a lazy, racist asshole. Also, my boss is me. And I'm unemployed.

ReplyDeleteAlso my first MLK day off... we used to get a floating holiday for it, but now it's a "core" holiday. I wonder what changed in the business world...

ReplyDeleteI worked today but, in my case it's kind of a philosophical point.
ReplyDeleteI don't ever actually do any work.

ReplyDeleteHousework is endless so I try not to worry about catching up. ;)
ReplyDeleteI had made a comment the previous week... Would we still have a holiday dedicated to him if he hasn't been murdered???
ReplyDeleteProbably not.
Yeah I had to work on MLK day. It kinda sucked
