Two Unrelated But Awesome Things!

First, thanks to B from The Opposite of That for giving me the Overlord Award! She’s great and I love power so it’s super appreciated.

Secondly, guess what guess what?!? I GOT A NEW BED!!! What, that’s not exciting to you? Well, remember the time I drunk blogged about my crappy bed and drew pictures about how uncomfortable (and LOUD) it was? Well, I did. And now I have a new one!!!

It’s a QUEEN, everyone. Which actually fits nicely into my overlord award:

I got it on crazy clearance, because a store near me was trying to unload their inventory before they closed for renovations. The only downside is that it’s a dual bed, so half is very plush and the other half is firm (you can feel like a dip in the middle).  It works for me, because I always sleep on one side of the bed, and I wanted something very soft and cozy.

Like snoozing on a cloud...
I HOPE Boyfriend likes it, because the side he’s stuck on is a bit firmer (though there’s a pillowtop thing on the whole bed). Our conversation before it got delivered went something like this:

Me: (for the hundredth time) I hope you like it
Boyfriend: It’s more important that YOU like it. It’s YOUR bed.
Me: But I know I’ll like my side. I hope you like yours.
Boyfriend: I’m sure it’ll be good
Me: I mean it’s kind of firm but you don’t like things too plushy
Boyfriend: It’ll have to be better than what you have now
Me: You’ll probably like it…
Boyfriend: I’m sure I’ll like it
Me: Even if you don’t like it, will you pretend that you like it?
Boyfriend: Absolutely. I’m definitely going to tell you I like it. I’m not an idiot.
Me: But you think you’ll really like it f’reals, though, right?
Boyfriend: I. Will. Like. It.

Anyway, then it got delivered and he SAID he liked it, but I’m not so sure.

Can I get a lie detector for this?
I like it. Except for the fact that I’ve had neck/back pains for a few days. Buuut, I’m just hoping my back is adjusting to actually having a nice bed and that’ll go away soon. Or something.

Anyway this is the old bed:

And here’s the new one:

At least Boyfriend’s feet no longer hang over the edge.

  1. I upgraded from a double to a queen because of frequent comments by my former boyfriend about how small it is. And now my new boyfriend complains about how small the queen size bed is and how his feet hang off the end. We should probably just sleep on the floor.

  2. What I wouldn't give for a new bed! My back hurts every damn day of my life!

Congrats on the new bed...a joyous occasion!

  3. Awww, I'm so happy for you both! Plus, it's great that you have a clear division between his side and your side. Myself and The Editor are constantly at war because she keeps invading my side of the bed! (She even brings an army of tickles and puppy dog eyes with her to defeat me sometimes)

  4. New bed! That includes new box spring? This is the first I've heard of the dual bed. Are you sure it's not a sleep-number bed? Hopefully your back is adjusting, but to be sure, lift heavy things from the knees for a few weeks so you don't throw your back out like an old person.

  5. I love the pictures in this one, as they're much less creepy than actual pictures of you and your boyfriend in the bed.

  6. HAHA, ahhh im so jealous of your new bed! I have a queen bed too but I need a new mattress, I'm so sick of sleeping on springs :| enjoy x

  7. I love that giving you this award led to this post. For some reason, I really did want updates about your new bed. I can cross this one off the bucket list. I'm glad you and boyfriend can now fit comfortably into this. Like a hot pocket with blankets.

  8. The facial expressions are great!! Hope it really is just the adjusting of your back to actual comfyness (might have made this word up) that it was deprived of for so long! Can you handle the comfyness...can you?

  9. Love the pictures-hilarious! New beds are the best...when I got mine, all I did was stay in bed for like a week haha

I hope your back starts feeling better soon!

  10. My wife was so damn happy after getting a new bed, and like yours, it was on clearance. Me, I could sleep on a rock if I had to, but I guess for a woman how she sleeps is everything. And frankly, as long as it stops her from ninja kicking me in the face in the middle of the night, I'm happy too.

Congrats on the bed. If only for the ninja kicking fact I stated above, I'm sure boyfriend DOES actually like it.

  11. I just bought a new mattress because mine sinks in the middle. It isn't a problem if you're one person in the bed, but if you're 2, it forces you to snuggle with whomever you're sleeping next to. Sometimes that's awkward... especially if it's your sister... or a friend who needs to crash at your place but you don't have a couch to offer..

"Hey! Come crash at my place! I need a good snugglebuddy."

I'm sure your boyfriend likes the bed. It's gotta be a step in the right direction.

  13. I enjoy your posts so much! These little conversations between boyfriend and you are so cute! I love how you are together... thanks for sharing and enjoy breaking in that new bed!

  14. Boyfriend's feet not hanging off the bed is a good thing! I love your new comforter!

  15. Congratulations on the new bed. And the award.

  16. Yeah, the joy of new, firm bed, cant be expressed in words. I had a fullbed and I starting to sleep in meetings and stay awake in bed. Good riddance.
And you are right about cuddling in crappybed and enjoying own sleep in good bed.

  17. Congrats on the new bed. Nothing like sleeping comfortably. I have a queen now but my selfish, space loving self wants a king. Im just too cheap to buy one. New sheets, frame, blankets. Too much work! Yay for your awards!!!

  18. I would so be excited about a new bed! I slept on a cheapo futon for four years and when I finally got a bed it was heaven! I didn't know such real sleep existed. And I like your bedspread.

  19. You should try the firmer side. Maybe it won't hurt your back/neck so much.

  20. Personal experience informs me that not having your feet hang over the edge of the bed makes a huge difference.

  21. pretty sweet comforter. I like it!

  22. I hated my old bed. It was a cheap twin size, and after a few years I could feel the springs in my back. I got a real nice one from Sams for about 300 bucks though

  23. Yay new beds! I went to the boyfriend's for the first time since we got together and he has a single, on the floor. I just said, "I'll never be sleeping over here!" He had let me go over to finish laundry since my washer went kaput mid cycle. So washing machine, yay! His bed for the both of us, nay!

  24. I already miss posts about the old bed.

  25. hot damn! you're on a roll now! and i must say - you're worthy of both the award & bed.

  26. The right bed can make a world of difference. I can't stand those extra firm beds... they're like sleeping on a pool table. I like my pillow-top, with a memory-foam topper. It's like sleeping on a cloud.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ooo...I've always wanted to give those dual beds a try. My husband and I have completely opposite preferences for the firmness we like, but we've been holding on to your saggy bed because those things are so, so spendy!

  28. "Even if you don’t like it, will you pretend that you like it?" Haha. Genius.

My bed is a little..confused..right now. No fault of my own. But I'm stuck with a superking bed, a king mattress and double duvets! Nothing quite fits. But hey, like your neck/back pain issue, I'm hoping it will sort itself out, over time.

  29. Congrats on the bed and the award!!! I need a new bed too!!!

Wait. So how did your boyfriend know how it feels like to sleep on kittens?? Haha!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Nice duvet cover. I have one just like it.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Like sleeping on kittens? Thats just evil. And brilliant!

Congrats on the Overlord award, that is awesome....!

  32. I can complete relate to Boyfriend. I had a bed where my feet dangled over and when I finally got a new bed.

    Total. Bliss.

  33. I just moved in with my boyfriend and took so much plaesure in throwing away my old bed. He has one of those Temperpedic beds that yo have to pay a crap-load (technical term) of money for that I could never afford. Its AWSOME since I'm pretty sure my old bed (that I didn't pick out) was made out of concrete.

As far as your back and neck hurting, I've had that happen before with new beds. Something no one tells you when you get one? You need to break them in. I'm not joking when I give you this advice. Try jumping on your bed. Or at least your side of the bed. If you have fun doing it you can jump on Boyfriend's side, but if it's too much like exercise you can leave his side for him. I got my daughter to help me, but since I'm a big kid I had a blast jumping on my bed and breaking it in quickly.

Just so you know, Temperpedic beds are NOT condusive to being jumped on. This makes me sad. And takes away my fun. But I got to roll a bowling ball around on it!

  34. I bought a new bed recently, I had to put it together myself.

When I had finished, I realised that there was still a bag of nuts and bolts left over. I couldn't really understand this, as I followed the instructions carefully.

I now sleep in a state of anxiety, convinced that at any moment, my bed is going to collapse from under me.

    ReplyDelete
  35. its normal to have some neck or back pains in a new bed, but your body will get used to it after a while and then thats the only bed you can sleep on most comfortably.
    i like the sheets ;P

  36. My mattress is so jacked up my back is as twisted as a Tarentino plot line. I am, however, a cheap bastard so a new bed is sadly not in my immediate future. ((le sigh...))

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thanks for this post--I actually laughed out loud. I hope you AND boyfriend LOVE it! And I agree with Jaya J. I've heard sometimes it takes a few days to get used to a new bed.
    Good luck!!!
    :)
    And thanks for the comment!!!
