Part Time Jobs

So, a couple of weeks ago I referenced a work project that was taking up all my free time. That is just about done, which is good. But now that I’ll have a reasonable amount of free time again, I really need to look into part time work. I would like more money.

I’m trying to figure out what kind of part time work I could do…considering I have very few skills and generally hate being around people.

I'm not above it, y'all.

My self control isn’t great. Ok, so I would need to avoid anywhere that served French fries. Maybe I could work at a bar!

Yes, that is a Scrubs reference.
Ok, so I’d need to avoid alcohol serving establishments as well. I need to keep working on this one.

What about you guys? Do you have part time jobs? Or ideas for a simple blogger who is good at sitting and cuddling cats and not too much else?

  1. It pretty much has to be retail if you're talking part-time work, right? There's probably a lot of seasonal work that's going to start coming up for the holidays. Ugh, I just got anal shivers (the name of my next metal band) thinking about working retail again around the holidays. I wish you all the best luck.

  2. I would suggest working with a vet, but they probably make the part timers handle more poo and less petting.

  3. Honestly retail is your best bet. I can personally recommend Gap. 50% off new merchandise, 25% off in old navy or banana, and 10 or 15 (don't remember) off of sale stuff. It's practically theft. Plus it's easy and fun.

I don't recommend the vet for you, or anything involving animals. Next thing we know you'll be on the news for catnapping. And I don't mean sleeping!

  4. HELLO!?! PET SITTER!!!!

My pet sitter charges $15 a visit! With cats you only have to come once a day but with dogs you've gotta come twice a day. You could do it before and after work. This is perfect for you! You get to cuddle animals and you get paid extra money.

I wish you lived near me. I would totally let you cuddle my orange kitty.

  5. You always make me laugh, too bad you can't make money with your creative talent...or maybe you can.

  7. The pet sitter one is good, providing you are reliable. Take a course and learn how to be a groomer. it's mostly dogs, but some cats too.
The other thing is sales. It's something everyone should try at least once in their life. If you are the right kind of person, you can make a ton of money. If you're the wrong kind of person you'll hate it and get ulcers. At least you'll know rather than wonder.
The other side of this, as I ranted about a little while ago, relates to the outgo side of the equation. Stop spending money, except on essentials. TV is not an essential. Neither is popcorn, emotionally satisfying as it might be. Neither is wine, contrary to what many of you might think about what i write about lots. A good bottle of wine costs me 3 to 4 dollars. At least half of what you spend on booze in your local booze store is tax. Get ruthless and stop spending. That gives you more money to use to start earning you money. In a while you can use that to pay off your student loans.
Do the math to see how much you can save by not spending money, as opposed to how much more you can earn per hour. You might be surprised.

  8. Wal-Mart greeter: Need I say more? Actually, this is the time of year to apply at a department store. They hire seasonal help during autumn. If they don't want you right now, then they might in a month.

    Love,
    Janie

  9. I work two jobs (3 if you consider the meager amount earned from my blog). Fastfood is what I do but we've already determined that that's a bad pick for you. :P

  10. You don't have to be poor to be a panhandler. You just have to LOOK poor.

Seriously, go look at the news articles. There are reports of guys who have quit their jobs to do this. They drive to some busy street corner in their brand new Lexus, get all scroungy, and then proceed to make $40,000 a year, tax free.

  11. Personally, I like the pet sitter idea. I think that would be ideal for you Gia! Imagine the blog posts you'd get out of that! But I'm also liking the sound of that job at The Gap, not to mention the discounts that go with it!

  12. What about dog walker or something...baby sitter for uh cats? Hmm I wouldn't be able to do any of the above either...I would just eat and drink.

  13. With the holiday season just around the corner retail is your best bet. Unless you are a shop lifter and can't help yourself! Obviously, bartender and fast food are out.

  14. I used to work as a page in the library when I was in high school. The best part? No one talks to you! They're not allowed! It says so right on your book cart! The worst part? It gets mind numbingly boring because you are just putting books back on the shelves and you can't talk to anyone.
I wonder if that job still exists.

  15. Ohhh you should totally just mind people's cats while they're on holiday!!! Catterys are super expensive and the cats sleep in cages and get pissed off so you could create a cathome instead. (I want to do this!) Xx
