MacBook Shopping

My wonderful old macbook is on its last legs, so I've been looking at getting a new one.

We have the best date nights.

But the answer is no. No, I could not.

Yes bloggy friends, I'm coming to terms with investing an arm and a leg into a new laptop.

How do you guys handle big purchases?

Sick Kitty

During the holidays, something pretty unsettling happened.

Something was wrong with my kitty. Her inner eyelid was showing on one eye, which is not supposed to happen. I brought her to the vet that afternoon.

The vet said it might be a virus or infection (she was hanging out with some other cats over Christmas and could have caught it from them).

So I brought her home and closely monitored the situation.

My. Entire. Weekend.
However, by the end of the weekend my poor kitty was WORSE.

Her eye was getting cloudy too, and other one was getting red. So I was back at the vet’s on Monday.

I brought her home and continued my vigilance.

Luckily, these meds actually worked, and Kitty’s eyes improved. Two days later, I brought her to the vet again to confirm.

So, that’s pretty much that. Kitty costs a small fortune, but she’s nearly all fixed. As cat owners know, it’s important to pay attention to kitty’s eyes. An untreated infection could have left her blind in one eye.

She’d rock an eyepatch, though. #PirateKitty

I Walk Hard.

Boyfriend and I took a walk last weekend.

There was a giant hole in the bottom of it.

So Boyfriend and I went shoe shopping last weekend.

You know how I feel about Five Below.

We went to a real shoe store.

So I bought myself a pair of shiny new heavy duty walking shoes. I’m hoping these hold out a bit longer than the last pair.

Does this happen to anyone else?

How to Ask for a Raise

So, as I have explained before, I’m relatively poor.  I work at a nonprofit in a sketchyish area. Money is tight there, but there’s been rumors of some possibly chance of some raises this year maybe possibly.  And I want one, you guys. I played a part in a project that recently had a good outcome, so now is the time to strike.

But I’m awkward, so this whole asking for a raise thing will surely be awkward as well. I figure I could go about it some different ways:

Beg. Puppy dog eyes. More begging.

This vomit-inducing episode, remember? Ick. Anyhoo, gray-mailing (it’s not quite blackmail). Probably not the best idea.

Good strategy, bad execution. May have just convinced bosses that I mess around on facebook all day. Also hysterical screaming = not good.

Will only work if bosses appreciate 90s movie references. They do not .

Risky strategy. But if it fails, consolation prize: lots of cats.

Have you guys ever asked for a raise? Did it go terribly? Share your stories!
