Post-Debate Analysis

Gah.

Ok, we can all exhale.

YAY we won! And yes, I was disappointed by some of the high profile races we lost (looking at you, Florida, Georgia, and Texas). But it was an extremely stressful night week two year period and I am so relieved we won the house. Whew.

Now if anyone needs me, I'll be taking a week long nap. Goodnight.

Rollercoaster

For those of us following the Kavanaugh hearings, this week has been so exhausting. 

Between the emotional testimony of Dr. Ford, Kavanaugh's hysterics, the news that the vote was going to happen, the news that the vote WASN'T going to happen, the FBI investigation, the limits to the FBI investigation, the tweet saying there wasn't limits to the investigation, and whatever the next thing is, I'm totally drained. 

If anyone needs me, I'll be screaming into the abyss. 

Very busy.

Sorry, no real post today! I've been very busy this week doing uhhh, summer stuff - you know, fishing hiking swimming boating yoga etc etc. 

Yep lots of self-improvement activities and definitely NOT sitting on my couch engaging in massive schadenfreude! 

Small Talk.

As I've mentioned before, I think Trump is a dumpster fire clown fascist and things in this country are going very badly. 

However, like lots of families, some of my relatives disagree. Some are trump supporters, some think hillary literally killed vince foster and some just like to start shit. Others are very conservative catholics who think abortion is the only policy issue that matters. 

I had to attend a birthday party with them all this weekend, which is always a struggle. Because this: 

Points for not bringing up Trump, right??

Everything Sucks.

This. Is. Nazi. Shit.

I really can't deal with the fact that we're committing human rights violations by separating children and parents at the border.  And I don't even *like* kids, so you know that if I think it's bad, it must be fucking horrible. 

Unfortunately, there's....not much we can do about it.  Check out https://familiesbelong.org/, they organized protests last week and might be doing more activism. Give to the ACLU. Vote for people who want to #AbolishICE. Leave other things to do in the comments.

So I was going to share my traditional MLK post from the past couple of years but a joke minimizing the civil rights movement feels a little bit like bad taste in this very immediate news cycle of the president being a racist dumpster fire.

Total eclipse of the...sun

The news has been total garbage lately. (SERIOUSLY, a pardon for Joe Arpaio? Trans military ban? White national dog whistling? Gross.)

So, let's talk about the one good that happened over the past week. 

THE ECLIPSE!!!!!

I wasn't in the path of totality, and I didn't really know what to expect as it began Monday afternoon. So we went outside with our special glasses (that were a pain to find) to take a look. 

It turns out, eclipses are extremely cool. I mean, it looked like this: 

That never happens! I ran inside to tell my coworkers. 

Then I checked on the eclipse every five minutes for the next two hours. 

All my coworkers came out at the max eclipse time and we all "oohed" at the sun together. 

It was actually a nice, community thing that involved something neat (science!) and not, you know, protesting together against civil rights being taken away. Very cool. When's the next one?

Memorial Day
